Title: Possible weird behaviour and freezing
Post by: crunchyfrog555 on October 02, 2019, 01:44:20 pm
Hi everyone.
I received my Microfreak an hour ago, and Im a bit puzzled by it frankly.
If i select any preset it will sometimes sound a little weird. I thought, no problem, maybe the preset are just meant to be odd sounds.
However, Ive only gone through a few presets and if i try to toggle paraphony on, it sounds glitchy and messed up, nothing like the patch is supposed to. When i choose Preset 6 Aft-WavPad, it will play a note for about a second then always freeze. Turning it off and on clears it, but it happens every time.
Also, ive noticed that on some patches i can turn laraphony on, and it wont turn off again (changing to another patch and back again will obviously reset it though). Also, the button doesnt always light when paraphony is on. Sometimes sound will cut out on a note and again, power cycling is all that fixes it.

I tried resetting to factory settings and it changed nothing. I read the forums here and noted that the power supply can get interference from other things, and as i have a few gaming consoles set up (Im bedbound), i changed to a socket of its own. No change.

I havent tried updating firmware yet though, as Im currently without decent PC (disabled benefits being only income and all that). I could drag out my old PC and do the update if its really required. I dont really want to, as its a bit of a pain for me, but if needs must...

What I would like to know is are these issues likely to be solved by such a firmware update, or is it more likely to be screwed up, and needing to be returned? I shall be really disappointed if its the latter, as being stuck in bed, itll most likely be another headache where couriers dont collect and i shall be stuck - its not the first time thats haplened to me where i cant return faulty products for this reason. Im also disappointed because it took me a few months to save for this and had i known they were this messed up, i would have waited or not bothered.

Still, any input you can offer is most appreciated.

Just to add an update, ive gone on youtube and compared it against loopops video where they run through the patches and one or teo soud similar if i fiddle with the filters, but some are just noise on mine where they are nice pads or something more musical on theirs.

Furthermore, after nosing a bit further through the patches, ive got to around the 50th Presets and Ive now encountered a few that just let out a high pitched whine and freeze the unit, just like the 6th Preset i mentioned.

God, i hope i dont have to send this back. Not a nightmare i want to look forward to.

An update.

I tried all that i could think of, and found yet more errors, so was about to send it back to Gear4music. But as a last ditch attempt, I asked my daughter to bring her laptop round, so to update the firmware.

Everything works fine now. I can find no more issues at all.

So if anyone else stumbles upon this thread, and you too have a new one which is REALLY misbehaving, where sounds are absolutely messed up, or sounding corrupt, and controls dont behave as they shou!d, get the firmware uldated and you should be good to go.

Great to hear.  I bought mine two days ago and am loving it, but I make a point of finding the latest firmware for any synth I get immediately.  I held out for about an hour with the MicroFreak before my neurotic behaviour made me (force my mate to d/l MCC and) update the machine despite it sounding fine. ;D
