Title: The LFOs need a noise waveform
Post by: stephenm on March 15, 2019, 10:06:59 pm
... just like in the MatrixBrute ;) Symmetry, Rate and Phase controls can be used to control spectrum, smoothing, etc.  These could be invaluable for creating random level and small pitch changes.

You for example have the whole Random Section and the Combinate Section and you also have the Drift parameter for the Analog OSC sections. The S&H in the Random Section include White Noise as a Source.
And you can use all the other modulators in combination with this too.
So may i ask, why you need a Noise "Waveform" in the LFO for random changes?

Simple - more randomization = better.  The LFOs are available to all modulation destinations.  With 3 more randomization sources, the possiblities are extensive.

And you also know Pigments LFOs have a S&H allready? Just turn the waveform fully to the right.
Is that what you describe Matrixbrute have?

You can also add LFOs as Sources in for example the Combinators. That add extra possibililities.

A main idea in Pigments is that everything can modulate everything (Allmost). I don't think LFOs have more destinations than other modulators.  Which destinations does the LFOs have that for example the Random modulators and the Combinators have'nt, if i may ask?
I know some filters have a Source selector for Filter Frequency modulation and that you can select LFO as source there. But you can modulate the individual filter parameters with modulators that is'nt avaible as source there.

EDIT: Don't forget you also have Noise in the Engines to use for some modulations. But did'nt mention them because you mentioned you wanted to modulate Level and Pitch only. I also wonder how many NOISE modulators you need for that.
And you btw also have Sidechain options for modulators, and for example Poly KBD as Reset source and such. I don't mind options, but Pigments allready offers a lot of different possibilities anyway. EDIT END

I didn't know about that - all I ever saw was the square wave.  That's useful, if you set the Rate to minimum, Reset Source to Mono or Poly KBD, then you get a random value with each keypress.  Thanks for pointing that out.

I never said that they had different destinations.

Nope, never said that either.  Thanks for your help.
