Title: Behavior of the "Random" Feature
Post by: carbonated on October 31, 2018, 07:26:05 pm
I think the "Random" knob would be more useful if it didn't subtract notes or add accents.  That way, it would be possible to sequence a basic beat and have the "Random" feature add variations but not kill the beat or jump out in awkward ways.  So my feature request would be to either change the behavior of the "Random" feature or leave the default behavior but add a second mode to the "Random" feature that would allow this.  Thanks!

The firmware update for the KeyStep add variations to the random mode. So why not one for the DBI as well?

I agree with the OP that the randomization should be under more control.

I would like the randomness to be more deterministic, even if that sounds weird at first.

My LaunchKey Mini Mk3 has a random feature for arpeggios that let you turn a knob to mess with the randomness, but it's more like altering the seed of a random number generator. Every sequence has the same randomness inserted into it. Turn the knob and you get something new, but it doesn't change on you.

It's really neat for "finding" ideas that you can then write into a sequencer.
