Title: [SOLVED] Neither firmware update nor MIDI Control Center work.
Post by: svmcwd on August 25, 2018, 04:29:47 pm
Trying since at least an hour to update the firmware of my Drumbrute Impact and to get it to work with the bloody MIDI Control Center without any success. What magic ritual is needed to get them to work the way they should? I'm on OS X 10.9.5 and already tried deleting all obsolete devices from the Audio-MIDI-Setup, checked connections etc., but absolutely nothing helps. Updating via SysEx doesn't seem to be possible either, as the update file is in an different format. What to do?

Well, after using a shorter USB cable, deleting everything MIDI related from the Audio-MIDI-Setup and giving the MIDI Control Center a really very long time for every step to take action things finally worked. It's like the Impact and the MIDI Control Center communicated through an very old dial-up modem instead of an USB port.

Hi svmcwd,
Do you use an USB hub?

Hi svmcwd,
as colleague I grec said, it could be useful to know if you were using a USB hub.
In the meantime, please not that osx 10.9 is no more officially supported by our software products.
Anyway, i did a check on a mac mini with osx 10.9.
when plugging the DBI on a powered USB hub, the DBI wasn't recognized, nor by MIDI control center, nor by MIDI studio.
Plugging it directly on mac usb ports solved the issue.
After this , when plugging it again on a USB hub went fine.
hope this helps,
cheers,

Hi, I don't use a USB hub, it was as described without using a hub. Also I'm on a Macbook from 2008 which otherwise works just fine with the OS it has now, it'd be great if a hardware synth product, which usually should allow to change all of those settings without needing an extra OS dependent software, doesn't become an issue in this context. I fail to understand why all those MIDI Control Center settings can't be changed within the hardware itself in first place, and I wouldn't have bought any Arturia product anymore if I knew it was that OS dependent at basics.

I should mention I tried to use a roughly 3m long USB cable first, maybe that was an issue. It never was an issue with other music hardware devices tho.

Hello,

Arturia website has a bug on firmware 1.0.9.366: the file downloaded is only a 47 Bytes today on October 4th.
47 bytes is not enough for a firmware, it is probably not enough even for the firmware header, and the size of the previous firmware file was 300KB.
Please update the file on your web server.

Thanks,
--------------

Bonsoir,

Merci

Hi. Interestingly enough, the new firmware is probably still buggy, as on my unit the roller/looper stopped working after the update. Fortunately it was possible to switch back to the older version and it fixed the "broken" touch strip. Hopefully all will be good one day, so I sincerely wish happy coding to nice folks at Arturia.

HI everyone,
indeed this firmware is buggy on some units. It will be removed from website asap. we'll release a new firmware + mcc version this week.

When encountering this "dead touchstrip" issue, you have to perform a factory reset, but be sure to have exported your patterns first, as every pattern will be erased.
So after having everything backed up in midi control center, unplug your Drumbrute impact, power it off.
To perform a factory reset , hold song+bank+ptrn buttons while powering up the unit.
Then you have to reload your patterns using Midi control center.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Cheers,
