Title: Playing 2 different sounds from the same Synth Module.
Post by: mr beep on June 09, 2018, 01:01:15 pm
Hello Everybody.
First ever post on first ever forum.
total newbie.
Was wondering if anyone could help me get past this brick wall ...
I have my keystep hooked up to an old PROTEUS 2000 sound module. (slim rack mounted type )& (lots and lots of preset sounds)
Is it possible to have a sequence playing one sound on the PROTEUS and then play over the top with another sound on the same PROTEUS.
whenever i  try to change the midi channel on the keystep , it changes the sequencer over to the new sound also.
many thanks if anyone has any advice.
KEYSTEP midi out>>>>>>>>>> PROTEUS midi in
VOLCA SAMPLE sync out >>>>>>>KEYSTEP sync in
DIP SWITCH on the KEYSTEP is set to sync in.

Yeah, you won't make that happen.  Keystep is a single channel sequencer, you can't run the sequence on one channel then change over to another and play over the top.  The channel it's set to is the channel it plays on whether it's a sequence, arp or freeplay.

hi
thanks so much for your reply. Really appreciate it.
Stayed up way too late the other night searching through you tube vids.
at 2 am i found out i could do it!
the keystep has 16 midi channels and all you have to do is press down 2 buttons at the same time and then press a key  and it changes the midi channel while the sequencer keeps playing the original sound.
So anyone whos interested in playing 2 different sounds from the same synth....
1  - make sure your synth or sound module has different midi channels and get one sound on midi channel 1 and another sound on midi channel 2.

2.  - Get a nice sequence running on the keystep on midi channel 1

3.    - hold down shift button and key play button at the same time and as you hold these 2 buttons down then also press one of the keys to change midi channel.

4 .  This was one hell of a mission to find this stuff out and every one i asked said it couldn't be done.

Wow, not seen that trick nor do I recall reading it in the manual!  I might have to reread that thing.  Cool.

hi
thanks for reply.
its not in the manual. it only says you can do it when connected by control voltage ( anolog synths etc) but you can do  it by midi .
its seems all this new stuff being released has hidden features and its up to us to discuss and find out for ourselves.
just wanted to add you have been truly amazing on this forum helping everyone.
massive thanks on behalf of everyone.
