Title: More reporting and questions about functionality and parameters.
Post by: LBH on August 28, 2017, 12:36:34 am
There are 2 modulation destinations in the Matrix named EG VCF Lev and EG VCA Lev. The manual say both are output level of VCA. Should it be of the VCF and the VCA?
What does those parameters actually do? I would like some more information about this.
Everytime i think i have found out, then the behavior suddenly seem to change. Are they broken, or what's going on?

As at least the Decay parameters play way longer time than thay should may have something to do with this. They are using a wrong scale factor.
This fault also have an impact on the Release.
EDIT: After some thinking and trying to remember. Then perhaps the decay work like a original. Perhaps the timescale mean something else than showing the full decay time?  EDIT END

Arturia please have a look at this an all parameters in you applications.
For example can a faults have an impact on how well you can use the original Minimoog patchbook and get the correct sounds.

Have for example also a look at Mini Vs Emphasis/ resonance scaling amount. It is very high very soon and much higher than in Mini V2 and t's clearly higher than the original minimoog too. My old V2 that use much resonance is sounding way off. This also make many sounds from the patchbook sound way off. I'm actually not sure if the resonance at Zero actually is zero, and that's perhaps why the sound is a bit high - lacking bass. But as said above, please have a look at all parameters in all your applications.

You know i wan't the best for Arturias applications. As i have said before, then i for example believe Arturias Mini V have the potentiel to be the absolute best emulation out there, also to get the correct sounds when using the original patchbook.

I looked at using the "EG VCF Lev" a while back and it seemed to do what I expected, that is it does the same as the "Amount of Contour" front panel control.

BUT... it seems to me there is a bug that if the amount, defined by the front panel control plus the value set by the modulation matrix input, goes above the equivalent of 10 on the front panel then it drops back down instead of limiting at 10. This seems like a bug to me.

I dont think I've ever used the EG VCA Lev

Thanks for your reply gregwalton.

Yes i also thoght it seemed like it actually was the amount of contour for the EG VCF level. But the sustain don't get more amount, so as far as i can see it is'nt. SUstain shall also get more amount of contour if it's that, and then i would call the parameter (AM) Contour like Cutoff is Cutoff.
It's not the level of the whole EG either, as if you see the VCA has a VCA amount parameter for this. I Would suggest to have a VCF amount too (AM VCF).
But still this i don't see as quite the same as having as having a parameter for the Amount of Contour parameter it self, as i have suggested to have in the feature section, as it look like an oversight it's not there.

A reason why you are not using the EG level can be because it seem to be inconsistent, and hard to get. I could see it could be used to get more level in the attack/ decay stage - as they don't affect the sustain.
But as said, then i find some inconsistent behavior for the EG when using this parameters.

One can ask:
Why is there Cutoff, VCA AM and EG VCA level parameters, but only EG VCF level and not VCF AM and Contour parameters?

(There are also the  Emphasis/ resonance parameter.)

Regarding the Emphasis/ resonance i can add this.

If you for instance take the Trombone (Jazz) sound from Tom Rhea's patchbook, then there is way to much resonance in Mini V3. If you turn Mini V3's Resonance down from the original value 2 to zero it sound more like it.

Trombone at 7:54 in the video.

Perhaps this feature request also can be a solution regarding the Emphasis/ resonance issue.

Perhaps the MiniFilter Vs "Limit resonance" does what's needed to tame it to the amount i suppose it should be?
