Title: [Solved] Keystep pattern chaining
Post by: Man-Machine on March 25, 2016, 12:24:09 am
It seems like selecting sequences in Keystep is only done by a rotary knob. This is unfortunate for live players who want to go through different sequences in the same song. It is extremely hard to turn a rotary knob to a sequence without missing the beat. For example, going from sequence 2 to sequence 7 at the end of a measure.

Letting the sequence play all the way through before switching would help, but even that has its own performance limitations. 8 dedicated push buttons could have been a solution.

I guess I'll have to wait for Keystep Pro?  ::)

Hi.

The Keystep has been conceived to be transportable, easy to use and affordable.

So it's interface is very simple and refined.

Include a pattern chain in this interface seems pretty complicated.

Kind regards

Hi Man-Machine,

In fact there is a kind of pattern chaining in the Keystep:

1) First, you can select through the MCC how the sequences will be switched (Next Seq param)
2) Moreover, there is a trick to switch immediately from a sequence to another even if the two sequences are not contiguous. This is achieved by pressing and holding the "Shift" button while turning the knob. So while the "Shift" button is pressed you can turn the knob and it will have no effect. When the "Shift" button is released, the selected sequence will be played.
For instance if Seq1 is playing and we want to switch to Seq6:

note: This feature is available for time division Knob as well.

Best regards,
SCo

why can't it be done from MCC in a software update? Either a very basic 'chain seq' function could have just one setting - play back all 8 sequences one after the other. Or it could be more complex - allow to make an arrangement for the seq playback order. Or maybe more basic but more useful could be to have one button added in MCC which is 'advance sequence'. And this button could be activated by midi cc. So the user can advance to the next seq at their wish by pressing a footswitch.
