Title: Matrix doesn't respond to Program Change [SOLVED]
Post by: Zerpio on December 31, 2014, 12:31:27 pm
Hi

First and foremost: Thanks for an excellent synth   8)  ;D

But I can't get Matrix to respond to Prg. Chng. in the Program Chain list. Nothing happens.
I have tried sending data from my Nordlead 2 and I have manually step programmed some Prg. Chng.  from inside Cubase 8 Pro.
If I look at the data stream I can see that Matrix 12 are recieving data, I have a light flashing up in the "Event Recieved Indicator" (Cubase Vsti window) and I can track data in Midi Monitor window inside Cubase. Only Prgn. Chng. are sent.

Now I'm stucked, any ideas?

Best Regards and a Happy new year

This is generally an Arturia issue,

as none of these receive program change messages:

SEM
Jupiter 8
MiniMg
Wurlitzer
Vox
Matrix 12

MiniMg V and the mini Vs have always received Program Change messages and still do.

The others for the most part have Next and Previous buttons in the top menu which are MIDI assignable.

Still, nowhere as useful Program Change messages.  I haven't had time to try out Matrix-12 V yet.

It is supposed to respond, quote from p.71 in the manual:

---------------------
Matrix-12 V provides a feature for just that purpose: Program Chain mode. It allows you to take any one of the presets, either Single or Multi, Factory or User, and place them in one of 128 locations for quick access.

What’s more, you can use MIDI Program change messages to select the presets when Matrix-12 V is in Program Change mode. This is a great way to integrate Matrix-12 V into your live rig; just send MIDI Program change messages from your controller keyboard and you’ll have easy access to your favorite Matrix-12 V sounds on stage.
---------------------

But what I first see now is the referer to Program change mode, not that it solves anything right now, I can't find anything about Program Change Mode anywhere.

After playing around with Martix-12 V, I can confirm that Program Chain mode does not accept Program Change messages.

It reminds me of Analog Lab when it first came out.  It too promised program change messages on its Live page, which didn't work but was later fixed in updates.  Hopefully we can expect the same with Matrix-12 V.

I've assigned MIDI control change numbers to the Next and Previous arrows in the Program Chain page (not to be confused with the ones in the top menu bar).  It's very slow in the assignment.  I thought the program had frozen.  So patience is required.

Patience is also required if you use these assigned controllers to choose a preset, because it can take about 10 or 15 seconds (on my computer at least) to do it's work—depending on how much you turned the knob, and you're never too sure where the selection will end up.

It's best to use these MIDI CCs in a DAW Event Edit window and type in the number of the value.  For instance in Logic Pro, the value 0 (it might be 1 in other DAWs) moves you one preset up or down.  Type in 4 and you'll move 5 presets.

So the Program Chain does work. It just takes a bit of playing around and patience to get the feel of it.  But it is not as predictable or useful as it would be if it accepted program change messages.

Hi,
The program change (through the Program Chain page) issue has just been fixed on the 1.1.0 update, and is available through the ASC or the website.
We're sorry you experienced such a trouble and hope you will enjoy this new 1.1.0.
