Title: Connection failed in Ableton Live
Post by: Gothboy on May 22, 2014, 02:43:48 am
Now that I've upgraded to 2.0 I'm not able to get connection in Live.  I keep getting this warning: "In order for the Spark controller to work correctly with Spark used in plugin-mode, it is necessary to turn off some midi connections in your DAW midi settings.  Please refer to the User's manual for more information." then I can't click off this warning and twice it crashed Live.  What specifically must I turn off in Live to get this to work?  I have no sync, I can't change patterns from the drop down in the software and the sequencer isn't following along.  I don't see anything in the manual that refers to this issue.

Please just a simple explanation on how to set this up in Ableton Live.

Sorry but Spark 2 is not compatible with 10.6.

Uhh do you think I'd try to run 2.0 on SL?  I upgraded to 10.7 specifically for 2.0 and so far I've nothing but issues trying to use it and sync it with Live.  Had similar sync problems with 1.7 running on SL where the sequencer was lagging behind Live so couldn't wait for an improvement in 2.  Works fine as a standalone....but that's not what I need it to do.

I'm using 2.0 on my other drive running 10.7.5 as my info says.

I've turned off all ports to and from Sparkle and upped my buffer size to 1024.  I can't get any mouse control in the Sparkle software. No sync depute the connect/disconnect indicator keeps turning on.

I tried SparkLE v2 last night for the first time in Live (PC) and had the same issue.  I have not reported it as I only spent 10 minutes on it so could be a problem my end.

Hope you get it fixed soon..

Paul

@Gothboy: if I understand well you have 2 problems:
- no mouse click
- no connection

Concerning the mouse click:
- are you using Live 64bit or 32bit?
- are you using Spark as VST or as Audio Unit?

Concerning the connection issue, is the controller connection well with standalone?

Kevin

Yes, no mouse click control.
Not connecting even though connection indicator blue.

Live Standard 32bit
Audio Unit.

Working fine as standalone.

Tested it again in Standalone mode and it was not working correctly this time not syncing with the controller.  Sequencer was all over the place stuttering and going random so then I had another idea: I've been using Spark with a usb powered hub.  It worked ok on my other drive with V1.7 so I tried it direct into native usb port with better sync results.  I'm still getting odd GUI behavior using as an AU...all of a sudden I couldn't select in drop down menus such as the Outputs Master/16 outs.  Also drop down menus ghosted and left on the screen after closing Sparkle, silent mixer signals continuing in the mixer when all is stopped and no music plays, Long loading times of effects.

Have The Same problem,  on windows 7 pc, in Ableton 9 suite  the vst runs normal,  but it do not connect to sparkle controller,  ( message  connection failed)
installed several times, switched midi remote sync track midiports on of in all different ways.. nothing helps ..

strange thing the software never asked me a auterisationcode, ( first installed the demo and it worked complete incl .safe etc)
i ordered the controller and end up with the same i had .. ;(

the standalone mode runs good and connect to controller without problem,
ps:
i go direct in usb ports without hub (also tried different ones)

installed 32 bit version

is there any midi remote script for ableton 9 that might solve this ? or does the connection works in a other way ?

The connection works another way.
That's why the MIDI port should all be OFF in Ableton Preferences.
Is Spark making sound correctly in VST mode?

Before I try VST I worked a bit more with AU in Live 32-bit.  Spark behaving well as far as following along in sync with midi enabled "Next Pattern" automation but connection fails and therefore the sequencer is all over the place and it's impossible to edit notes or even tell what synth or beat note is playing.
Why all these workarounds?  Shouldn't 2.0 just work right out of the box.  It seems to me that sync is where Sparkle just keeps failing...at least for me.  I'm starting to long for something that just...works.

I am starting to asking myself if this is not a hardware issue.
Do you have opened a support case?
I not, please do it and send the ticket number to me.

Thanks
Kevin
