Hi guys
I heard the old Telstar instrumental on the radio recently and thought it would be great to get that same sound on my Minibrute.
But I'm struggling to reproduce it. I think on the original record they used a clavioline which was an early organ/synth device. It sounds like a square wave with a lot of vibrato, but I just can't get it right.
Any pointers on how to achieve that sound?
cheers

Hi guys
Further to my previous message about how to create the Telstar sound, I have made some progress with it. Attached is a photo showing the knob positions I used. It kind of sounds like the original, but its a little too smooth, but I can't think of a way to get a harsher sound unless I stick it through an external distortion pedal. Note that you need a slight touch of vibrato using the mod wheel.
Maybe you could try it yourselves and have a play with it. You might be able to get it closer than I can.
I look forward to hearing what you can come up with.
All the best

is it this track : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryrEPzsx1gQ ?
i guess so :)
i think you have to switch your filter to band pass mode and to add a little noise oscillator.
the attack also have to be a little smoother.
no glide.
i used the lfo in random mode to modulate the pitch - on a light basis-.
at the end, a reverb and an external hi pass filter - wich could be the EQ of your mixer - will help a lot.

Yes, that video is the tune I am talking about.
It's a very coarse sound (squarewave?) and quite hard to get the Minibrute to match it
