Title: Drums "cancelling" each other?
Post by: JacksonP on June 10, 2012, 05:10:43 pm
Hi folks,

Have you noticed that in many drum kits there's this kind of problem:

In step seq, put for example snare drum in a beat where's also bass drum and then another snare in beat where it's alone (no other drums at same time). Sometimes (with some drum kits more than with others) there's quite a difference in volume. In other words bass drum takes out power (or volume) of snare. What's happening, should it be like this?

Anyway it makes beat making quite difficult when there's no constant volume with those drums...  ???

I don't think it should be like this.  And..  I can confirm that problem with the 1.0 vdm

Hi,
Can you give me some example kits.
I already notice something like this but it was with kits that have a compressor in the master fx. When disabling the compressor the volume was the same for each trig.

Thanks Kevin for your fast reply!

I was in fact wondering if this problem was there because of the effects. Now it seems that this is the reason. The most obvious case is "Deep Minimal" -kit which, like you predicted, has compression in master FX. Shutting it down takes out the "cancellation" problem (but unfortunately also the power of the kit...).
