Title: Spark VDM. And Spark, Are these 2 separate applications?
Post by: VDM77 on May 14, 2012, 12:08:04 am
I am in need of some help. I just recently purchased a download copy of spark the VDM software. I 1st downloaded and installed and authorize my spark VDM software. Then I had noticed there is a spark application and a spark VDM. Are these 2 separate applications? Because I can only register and unlock the spark VDM version and I can only run the regular spark version in demo mode. Which licensed did I pay for or does it cover both or one? I am very confused please help.
Did I register the wrong version by mistake?
Thank You
Alex,

Yes, Spark VDM and Spark 1.4.1 are two different applications.

Spark VDM is a software only product, containing 30 vintage drum machines models (combination of analog modeling and sampling), and is authorized via the eLicenser system.

Spark 1.4.1 is the latest software update for Spark CDM (Creative Drum Machiine, supplied with the Spark hardware controller), containing over 80 kits (drum machines, acoustic drums, hiphop/r&b sets, ...), and it uses another authorization system than eLicenser. Without an specific activation (provide when you register the serial included with the hardware controller), it can only run in Demo mode (no Save nor Import/Export functions).

If you purchased Spark VDM, you received and eLicenser activation code when you registered your software serial number. This only allows you to use the Spark VDM software.

I need to import & export my original samples.  I thought that Spark VDM could
do this but I can not get it to work.  Can you help me do this?

Thanks,
Alex

Spark VDM cannot import your own samples. It can only be expanded by Arturia.

Sample import (as well as REX import) is a feature of Spark Creative Drum Machine (with the hardware controller). On Spark CDM, you can import WAV/AIFF samples in up to 6 velocity layers per instrument/pad.

I had mentioned this in this thread:
http://www.arturia.com/evolution/smf/index.php?topic=6206.0 (http://www.arturia.com/evolution/smf/index.php?topic=6206.0)

Both Spark VDM and CDM allow you to export patterns as WAV files (or MIDI files).

Spark VDM is like a software-only (factory expandable) ROMpler version of Spark with a limited set of kits (that is why it's more affordable).

It's almost like the equivalent to Analog Player/Factory/Laboratory which are derivative "ROMpler" versions based on the full Arturia synths. You can to play a limited (though expandable) set of presets using the same audio engines of their big brothers.

I have both, Spark and Spark VDM (only got the VDM because if the Hybrid Madness promo) and you can use them at the same time and you can even user Spark's controller with Spark VDM, if needed.

Spark VDM is not user expandable so only Arturia can make expansions for it.

Spark is user expandable, so this is the product to have if you want to build your own kits with your own sample set.
