Running 1.5, running standalone, CRASHING too much for me.
Had Spark for almost a month now and haven't done one song on it because of too many tech issues.
:(
-
Hi,
sorry to read that.
Can you give me some more details about these crashes?
Is there a way to reproduce them?
What OS are you using?
Are you willing to try the 1.6.1 beta version?
Kevin

Hey Kevin.
My specs are: Mac 10.6.8
2GHz Intel Core Duo
2 GB Ram.
The crashes usually happen when some message pops up up on the screen, cant remember what it says but it gives me a "Ok or cancel" option. Either one I choose, it will crash the whole Spark program.
-
Hi,
if you can send me some screenshot of this pop, this might help a lot.
thanks in advance
Kevin
-
Ok Kevin, will do!
-
thx :)
-
Kevin, this is what I keep getting!
-
Hi,
thanks for the screenshot.
Looking at your system specs which are just the minimum requirement, I guess this is due to lack of CPU and/or memory.
I will try to figure out what goes wrong with that.
Thanks again.
Kevin

Hi,
Does it happen randomly?
Does it happen when you're loading a kit or a preset?
Can you tell us what you're doing with Spark when this popup appears (are you just playing patterns, or hitting the pads, or both at the same time...)?
Thx
-
Seems to happen when im loading something or there is some sort of loading going on. Its random, not all the time.
-
OK, thanks. That helps me.
-
But like Kevin said, it could be my computer specs. But then again, I run Studio One and have been running it with ZERO problems. And I usually have ALOT going on in a Studio One session!
-
Standalone 1.6.1 is crashing for me too...mostly when I try to save a user project but randomly otherwise
Im on Win7 64bit, 4 gig ram, i5 2.66ghz...its just a simple set so it isnt pushing CPU
screen says nothing except "search for solution online" etc
-
Hi kcearl,
unfortunately, I am not able to reproduce the issue you are encountering.
Would you be willing to try a development version and send me a dump file generated by windows when it is crashing?
Kevin
-
Hi Kevin, thanks for getting back to me...Ive done some trouble shooting and I think my anti virus and internet were causing some conflict, the worst was during an update and when a pop up appeared from Sony...with these off Ive had one crash whilst saving and a blue screen...but Ive been playing and making kits this morning and it seems more stable
If it starts again Ill send a dump file
-
ok good news :)
-
Hello,
How are you ? Fine I hope ! :)
Just installed Spark 1.6.1 and upon launch I keep getting these 2 Error:result messages layered over each other in plug-in and standalone modes ! :o
OS X 10.6.8
I have attached an image file of the 2 Error:result messages. :o
One Love.
God Bless.

Im still getting a lot of crashing whilst saving user kits, I'm not sure where Windows creates a dump file Kevin, can you point me in the right direction?
Its far from unusable but it does crash fairly often, even when its the sole application running.

@Phillip: can you check that you have the correct permission in Spark Library folder?
You need to have write access.
@kcearl: maybe this is also a permission issue. I am guessing that because it is happening when you are saving a project.
concerning the dump file, I need to send you a development version to get useful information. The dump file are also quiet big (several hundreds of megabytes). Maybe you can check the permission first then we will see what happens.

OK Kevin
this is what Im getting from windows when it closes Spark down

at the moment im making an OP-1 kit and it is crashing every single save, not just sporadically as before....
-
In library permissions its saying "read only", even when i change it and click "Apply" it goes back to read only when I re-open it....is there a way to remedy this?
though as user and administrator I have write permission. but now every kit i try to save crashes Spark...it wasnt behaving like this yesterday
-
Are you administrator of the computer?
-
Yes, even if i run as administrator its crashing....
-
So Ive checked maschines library and kontakts, I have the same permissions and can save these with no problems. So Im not sure is the permissions as it says both my username and administrator have write permissions in properties
-
What version are you using? 1.6.1?
You could try to backup the user projects and reinstall the program.
I have uploaded 1.6.1.1 here (http://www.arturia.com/downloads/spark/rc/1.6.1.1/rc1/). It solves a problem that is not related to that but it is worth a try.
If it does not solve the problem maybe we could consider the dump file.
-
Ok Kevin I think Ive found a resolution (trouble shooting windows is becoming part of my music production lol)
- first I made sure all users were running Spark as admin, even though theres only one user go into "change setting for all users" and click "all users".
- I also went through this procedure http://support.microsoft.com/kb/256614 (#7 in the workaround section) through Cmd.exe
Ive loaded a few kits and saved changes and it hasn't crashed...as I'm mostly making kits in Spark Ill update you if it gets sporadic crashes again, for now this may have solved it
-
ok thanks for the update.
finger crossed :)
-
lol, still crashing...not as much but hey ;)
ill try 1.6.1.1
-
Hello,
How are you ? Fine I hope ! :)
Starting up smooth now ! 8) :D
I installed 1.6.1.1
I have my Spark Library installed on another internal hard drive from system boot hard drive.
Within Arturia folder I trashed 2 folders, Audio folder which contained a Plug-Ins folder which contained Spark VST and Spark Component and Application Support folder which contained Digidesign folder which contained Plug-Ins folder which contained Spark Vintage Drum Machines.dpm..
Hope that makes some sense to you. ::)
Spark Library on other internal drive as: Arturia Spark Libraries/Library/Arturia/Spark/Spark Library. ;)
All seems to be OK at startup with no error messages ! 8) :D
Strange ! :o
One Love.
God Bless.

Hi Phillip,
I hope you did not trash the whole folders "Audio" and "Application Support" because these are system folders and you might have serious problem using other applications.
If you only have deleted Spark.vst, Spark.component and Spark.dpm, everything is fine :).
-
Hello Kevin,
Ha Ha ! ! ! ! ! ! :D
I know much better than that Kevin ! ! ! ! ! ! ! :o
Let me explain a little better if I can. :P
You see on one of the internal hard drives on my computer I have a partition named Library. :P
This partition named Library is not on my primary boot drive that OS X 10.6.8 is installed on. :P
Partition: Library/Arturia Spark Libraries/Library/Arturia/Spark/Spark Library is the path to my Spark Library that I have installed on hard drive that is not my boot system hard drive. :P
How an Audio folder and Application Support folder got installed there in the first place I don't know. :o
Maybe when I installed an earlier version of Spark and directed the installer to install Spark Library in this location it installed Audio and Application Support folders with Spark.vst, Spark.component and Spark.dpm within them. :P
A strange discovery for me for sure that they were there ! ! ! ! ! ! ! :o ::) :o ::) :o ::) :o
Good thing is that Spark 1.6.1.1 does not have any error messages upon startup and is running smooth ! ! ! ! ! ! ! :D 8)
One Love.
God Bless.

Phillip, you know that there are different Library directories on your mac? Normally there are 2 at minimum, one under the root path ("/") and one for at less one user in the user directory. This can be placed anywhere on your partitions and holds data for apps that you had installed only for this dedicated user, not for all users.
