Title: Theremin, Tannerin and Martenot presets
Post by: dzy88p on September 12, 2003, 03:39:21 pm
Check out the 3 new presets for MMV: Theremin1, Tannerin and Martenot.

I'm sure everyone is familiar with the Theremin.  To get a really convincing Theremin emulation, I need an inverter function to create a ramp waveform.  In the meanwhile, this will do.

Paul Tanner invented the Electro-Theremin which was used on The Beach Boy's "Good Vibrations".  Later, Tom Polk and David Miller created the Tannerin, based on the E-T, for Brian Wilson a few years back.  David Miller helped me considerably in re-creating the Tannerin sound.

See the following link for more info:
http://www.electrotheremin.com/tannerin.html

During the process of creating the Tannerin preset, David suggested that the sound was quite similar to the Ondes Martenot.  So I kept that preset, did a little research and modified it to more accurately emulate the Martenot.

Title: Ondes Martenot, yum
Post by: Meffy on October 11, 2003, 11:17:23 pm
dzy88p, thanks for the patches! I'm a fan of these antique boxes too, and was pleased to see your Ondes Martenot in particular. I learned a lot while reading up on the Electro-Theremin too.

Would you mind if I use your Ondes patch as a prototype, or jumping-off point, for the design of an instrument to be built using Tassman? I'd like to try using your "electronics" along with Tass' wonderful physical modeling to emulate the sounds not only of the "primaire" diffusor but also the "palme" and "metallique."

Needless to say, you'd be given credit for the original software version! :-)

Thanks either way,

Meffy Ellis

Chris (sorry, forgot to use your mundane handle last time), thank you.

I wouldn't want to guess when I'll have anything thrilling to present, but being an enthusiast of the MMV, the Ondes, and Tassman it was inevitable that I'd want to try combining them.

This will be a learning experience for me, as I've so far used Tass mostly for "sound effect" type stuff. :-) It will be interesting to see if I'm able to pull this off!

Now I'll need to learn more about the actual hardware implementation. Maybe it's time to see if I can contact that Japanese music school that bought 44 of the last 50 Ondes manufactured... hoo boy, fun time...

Anyhow, again: THANKS.

Sorry to resurrect this old thread. I absolutely ***love*** the theremin presets, especially theremin2. But when I'm playing (as a vsti plugin as well as standalone), after about 10 seconds, the sound suddenly drops in volume. Any idea why this may be?

Sorry, here another resurrection of this old thread.

Anyone still has the patches? Original link does not longer work.

I'd love to try them, would be much appreciated.

Thanks!
