Title: Play button only ever starts the synths own sequencer

I'm using  a Keystep into a Roland SH-01A.

The Play button always starts the Roland's own sequencer whatever I set the KS controls to. The only control which has any impact is the Rate knob changes go through to the synth.
Tried a Factory reset but no change.

So cannot create sequences or arpeggios in the Keystep.

Any thoughts?
