Title: New user looking for resources..
Post by: Kill9all on March 16, 2021, 04:24:46 am
Hi all. I just bought a MicroFreak and DrumBrute Impact. I've never even seen a synth, let alone played one. Can someone please share any VERY beginner resources? I'm having a lot of fun so far, but don't understand some of the basic terminology and why turning some knobs doesn't seem to have much effect. Most of the YouTube tutorials assume some basic knowledge; none here! Thanks in advance!

Welcome.

Probably a good start would look on YouTube for some beginner videos on synths. Trouble is you picked a complicated one to learn on because the microfreak is a hybrid wavetable/digital/analog synth.

I have also seen a lot of videos on YouTube in this regard, but I don't think it will be helpful for you in this regard.

Add Sweetwater
https://www.sweetwater.com/
Look up 'synth Clips"

If I were going with what you are showing and could, I'd add the PolyBrute

You might also youtube up and subscribe to Automatic Gainsay He's done multpart video series on both the MicroFreak and PolyBrute as well as technical aspects of sythesis, like paraphony, polyphony and multiphony. Arturia also does videos

If you want old school check out The New York School of Synthesis.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atvtBE6t48M.

It's a goofy old 3 part course on the fundamentals of sound & synthesis that helped me alot.
