Title: Arturia Keylab MKII Aux connections.....
Post by: Majo1977 on December 22, 2020, 01:27:52 pm
Hi guys,

im new to the world of Arturia and im a also novice at rigs.Im looking to build my own home studio and i hoped to rig up a bunch of equipment and use them through a DAW ( Abelton), the one thing i cant understand ( sorry if it sounds Stupid ) is how to set up my Arturia so that the sounds goes in to my mixer, ( Yamaha MG10)  then from the mixer out to a loop box.(RC 505)

I have guitars, pedals and Vocals all set up on individual channels on my mixer then my output goes to the loop box and from the loopbox via Interface ( Scarlett 212 ) back inte Ableton and out through speakers.

I had hoped to take the output sound from the Keylab back to the mixer so that all instruments leave the mixer into the loopbox ( RC 505 ) as my END of line (pre Interface).

This way i can choose to use the keylab as an individual channel, choose to manipulate it pre DAW, and /or play together with friends on separate instruments together in a band environment .

So here come the stupid question....

Can i use the AUX 1,2 or 3 outputs, to send the music back to the Mixer so that all Mixer sounds go to interface/Daw via the loop box?

is it better to connect everything "Daisy Chain" style instead?

Like i said its the output from the keylab that im struggling with

thankful for any kind responses

Thank you

M

Welcome to the forum.

The Keylab is just a midi controller. It does not have any audio in/out capabilities. The Aux sockets on the back do not pass through any audio, as per the description in the manual they are purely for the connection of continuous pedals and footswitches.

You can kind of do what you want to do but you would have to use an audio interface in your computer.

I fought with this for a while too.  So, keylab works as a controller for midi only.  Its your computer that has the sound files you play.  Therefore:  Sound out of computer to your mixer board line input, or if you have a usb input then use that if you wish.  My Mackie Pro has either way working depending upon the board setting switches.  I can either use headset out of laptop to mixer line in, or i can use usb out of laptop to mixer usb input one or the other not both as my mixer has a switch for either control room speakers or usb, and then a fader switch...I love my Mackie...  So, the quirks are making sure all your stuff is set on the same sound settings,  ie:  44100 @ 24bits.  This is the only setting that seems to be shared by all my stuff.  I have the Mk 88 hooked up and a Roland FA 08.  Plus guitar and mic etc.  the mixer then feeds through control room output jacks to my powered speakers. So you mentioned Ableton.  Make sure the midi settings are the same there also.  But in order to make it all loops without feedback I also use my mixer phones out, to my scarlet interface and then back into the laptop on another usb socket.  My board has a selector switch for either phones or control room signal send.  So if recording to Ableton I select usb for recording midi.  I use the control room switch for recording keys, vocals and anything I play live.  You have to mess with Ableton setting in order to find the right in and out settings in preferences.
Using this method I was also able to record in to Audacity without the usual feedback and jitters once i got all the settings set to the 44100 @ 24bit.
I sure hope I explained this ok for you.
Regards!
