Title: MicroFreak as a controller?
Post by: Challa on October 27, 2020, 10:11:38 am
Hello there

Is the Microfreak usable as a MIDI controller? If yes, does it support Pressure/Aftertouch?

Can it be USB or Battery-powered?

I am just checking if I can get rid of my Korg MicroKey Air.

Regards

While the MF can be powered by USB though not batteries, its MIDI implementation is uniquely restricted and I'd not recommend it as a MIDI device of any kind. I've been constantly frustrated by its non-standard Continuous Controllers set. It is perhaps the only MIDI synth ever made that doesn't send or receive MIDI Volume (CC#7). The keyboard works in its own peculiar way but it's only two octaves and doesn't generate velocity. I use a digital piano and a Yamaha synth to play my MF. Keep your Korg.

I use a battery pack almost more than plugging it in.
Make sure you buy a Lithium Polymer battery if you are going to get one.
Hope that helps.
