Title: Connect BSP to 2x synths and a Volca drum
Post by: EKT on October 25, 2020, 02:26:51 pm
Hello:

Am looking to connect an AFX Station, Microfreak and Volca Beats simultaneously to the BSP without the use of a computer/DAW or audio interface. (Hardware only)

Would like 1 melodic sequencer to control the AFX Station
The second melodic sequencer to control the Microfreak
And the drum sequencer to control the Volca.

AFX station has a 5-pin MIDI in
Microfreak has a 1/8th MIDI in
Volca has a 5-pin MIDI in.

But there is only one MIDI out on the BSP.

Would very much appreciate some help on how to achieve this. Would a MIDI splitter cord be helpful and if so is it able to isolate both synths to their own sequencers?

Any help much appreciated!

I use an Eric Synths MIDI Thru box (https://www.ericasynths.lv/shop/standalone-instruments-1/midi-thru-box/) though you can get smaller ones (4 ports).

BSP MIDI out into the MIDI in on the Thru box. MIDI out ton the thru box to the MIDI in on the synths. Then set BSP Sequence 1 to (for example)  MIDI Channel 1, Sequence 2 to MIDI Channel 2, and Drum Sequence to MIDI Channel 10. Then set the input channels on the synths to match. Alternatively you could sync the Volca Drum via the Clock Out on the BSP or the MF.
