Title: White knobs "yellowish"
Post by: oriolbielsa on September 03, 2020, 10:24:58 am
Hi!

I just got a B-Stock Microfreak from Thomann. Everything is working fine so far, but the white knobs have a nasty "yellowish" color on the edge (like being washed out or something). As far as I've seen in online pictures, normally those are pristine white.

Is that normal? There's any way to polish It (dismount the knobs), or buy new knobs? Already tried with 75% alcohol, with no results.

My KeyStep was like that. I stuck them in a mix of 50% bleach over night. Fixed the problem. Small disclaimer that as usual you do that at your own risk etc, in this litigious society we now live in.

Thanks for the answer  :) No lawsuit problem here, don't worry..

I already read that about bleach, but I was unsure about how to remove the knobs. Since these are not regular "turn" knobs, but also "click" knobs.

Anyone have any experience removing the knobs?

Again if they're the same as the Keytep they're just a push fit.

Having a similar issue with the white knobs that have become discoloured…

In terms of removing them, is it just a case of pulling them off? (phrasing)

I’ve given them a fairly strong amount of force but they’re not budging! Just wondering if they would have been glued, or whether I’m just being weak!?

Yes you can pull them straight up and off. Sometimes they're a bit stuck tough, in which case you just need to pull harder.

It's also possible to get them off by prying them off from the underside. If you need to do this, be careful to not damage the panel - you can place something under the "pry bar" to avoid scratching. There are even special tools like little knob pry-bars or knob-pullers for this purpose. Or you can use a string that you sling underneath the knobs and pull on that.

You may have to slightly vandalise a thin-pronged fork to lever them off. They really are just a push fit.

little pry bars they sell online for cell phone repairs work well for removing knobs like this, so you don't break anything
