I don't understand why any sequencer with a scale setting doesn't restrict the input keys to only those notes in the currently selected scale.
Set the scale to C-Major, and the "black keys" should be disabled entirely.
This could be done in a couple ways.
- Put all of the notes in the given scale on the bottom row of pads. This would be one octave of that scale starting with the root note for the scale on pad 9 (labeled C/Forward).
- Leave all notes where they are, but black out the notes (turn off the LED) for the notes that do not belong to the current scale.
- You could leave the pads active for unused notes (for people playing avant-garde music).
- Light the root note at full brightness, remaining notes in scale at partial brightness, and non-scale notes at zero brightness.
It's pretty tedious to program a pattern on-the-fly using the rotary knobs. It's much faster to use the pads in record mode, but most of us don't know exactly why notes are in any given scale. If we did, we wouldn't need the sequencer to have scale modes at all.
