Title: Preset Request -- Peter Howell Doctor Who Theme
Post by: gzebrasky on May 03, 2020, 05:45:53 pm
Hey Everyone!

Having some fun at home with my son during the quarantine with a CS-80 and ARP 2600, which are the two keyboards that Peter Howell used primarily for the iconic 1980 Doctor Who Theme.

There is a video of Peter Howell using the CS-80 here -- could someone more familiar with the CS-80 help me build a preset for that bass brass part?  I think he's using mostly the presets and I can get close but not quite.

THANKS SO MUCH!

Hi,

did you succeed?

By the way, I'm also trying to recreate sound from this video, but first one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pX5teAVGKlE&t=100

I see that he uses Funky1/Funky2 preset (which means that VCO/VCF settings are not relevant), most of other settings seems to be default, and finally he uses ring modulator. Looks simple, but somehow I can't get rid of default tone which can be heard together with frequency-changing tone. I'm using default template, and my funky1/2 sounds are very different. I can make them short with VCF, but if they are too short (to almost a click), ring modulator doesn't work.. I feel I don't understand something very basic.

If someone can share preset, I'll appreciate it a lot.

Hi and welcome to Arturia forums.

I can't get rid of default tone which can be heard together with frequency-changing tone.
This is a bug. When the Speed and the M (Amount) sliders are set high enough, then you should not recognize the original sound. As it is you in example can't use the ring mod to create bell sounds either.

I'm using default template, and my funky1/2 sounds are very different.
The button presets unfortunately does'nt sound like the originals.

I can suggest you report bugs to Arturia support.

Hi,

Thanks a lot of your reply!

I contacted Arturia support and they said it will be fixed in next versions, and they will notify me. Just wow.
