How about an option to display the octave setting would be to display different brightness levels as follow:
-4 Octave = 10%
-3 Octave = 20%
-2 Octave = 30%
-1 Octave = 40%
0 Octave = 50%
+1 Octave = 60%
+2 Octave = 70%
+3 Octave = 80%
+4 Octave = 90%
It would resolve the "Flashing" problem which might make some people dizzy or distracted. I don't know how well someone might interpret brightness levels but, it would be an option.
