Processor optimized software
« on: May 22, 2005, 01:04:58 pm »
Hi
Will it be possible for Arturia products to take advantage from Multi-processor technology and from Fast intructions ( SSE2 - PowerPC ) in the future? This could be greatly helpful to cut down some cpu expensiveness issues!!

I think the real solution, due to the CPU power which seem to stagnate, is to build a dedicated PCI card, with lot of DSP.

Yes but PCI would last until a faster bus will be found so you would be limited with your card when the PCI will be dismissed totally, otherwise  with an optimization for Athlon/Pentium SSE2 and things like NetBurst or similar it would be a matter of adding some drivers only which would have to be changed only when they pass away....

If we continue to ask sophisticated feature to Arturia,
for they could emulate the real stuff, the only solution remain
will be an Arturia hardware rack, with some dozen of DSP's inside,
which accept uploads of one or more Arturia VST's,
and which communicate with computer via USB2 for example.
The same kind of architecture as the Nord Modular G2, but for
Arturia's VST's. Like this power is inside rack, and even could be
used with an average computer. :D
It's just my opinion

Or with the recent Creamware relase about the MiniMax ASB (see http://www.cwaudio.de/index.php?seite=asbfamily&lang=en for further details).

They are also planning a similar platform for the Prophet vintage synth.
The price is a factor less than the Voyager but you cannot import your own vintage personality inside (have to buy a new box with the adhoc DSP based emulation inside   :?   ).

The Creamware stuff is great, but expensive!
It would be nice to see dedicated hardware for Arturia's stuff but I don't think it will happen soon. I hope they will improve their software first, especially the Arp which is only an half-success in my opinion.
