Keylab 88 firmware upgrade error: crc error
« on: August 19, 2016, 06:36:45 pm »
Hello,

About a week ago, I installed the latest Midi Control Center for OS X from https://www.arturia.com/products/keylab88/resources
I connected my Keylab 88 via USB, and Midi Control Center notified me that there was a firmware upgrade available.
It downloaded it and instructed me to power cycle the keyboard to put it into firmware upgrade mode. I did that, clicked OK, and it started flashing the new firmware.
The process was halted due to an error: Midi Control Center said there was a CRC error.
Now the keyboard is not usable, and upgrading the firmware again isn't working either.

I found a thread where a person appears to be having the same issue, but there is no solution given: http://forum.arturia.com/index.php?topic=84287

I also created a support ticket (case number 296548) on Arturia support about a week ago, but I have not received any response.
Details are here:
Case   Title   Status   Date Opened
296548   [Technical Support] -  firmware update error: crc error   Open    8/14/2016 3:26 AM

Please advise.
Thank you.

I've got exactly the same problem with brand-new Keylab 49 Black Edition. Anybody knows the solution?

i've solved my issue.
information from these two posts along with trial and error led me to the solution:
http://forum.arturia.com/index.php?topic=84287.msg118898#msg118898
http://forum.arturia.com/index.php?topic=82040.msg110221#msg110221

basically, what i've learned is that the firmware upgrade process is error prone and unreliable, and how OS X handles midi controller names may be partially to blame.

if your keyboard is stuck in a weird mode (probably firmware upgrade mode: the character LCD displays all solid blocks), get the newest midi control center and then do this:

open "Audio MIDI Setup" (it's an OS X util, ships with the OS)
go to Window -> Show Midi Studio
select anything that says keylab88 / keylab 88 upgrader (or similar) and Remove it.
note that you can probably only remove a device if you have it unplugged / powered off.

then go into Midi Control Center (the arturia app that you update the keyboard in) and try to upgrade the firmware.
if you run into problems...

after it downloads the firmware update and tells you to reboot the keyboard to put it into upgrade mode, if your keyboard isn't going into that mode (lcd shows all blocks)...
turn the keyboard off, remove all keylab88/upgrader devices from "Audio MIDI Setup" util (described earlier), then force the keyboard into upgrade mode:
hold edit+multi+sound buttons while powering it up, and the lcd should show all blocks... then press OK in midi control center to flash the firmware it had downloaded.

good luck guys.

you can close my ticket, artuira.
thanks for your help... not sure why you couldn't tell me how to do this last week ::)

Please try to delete the device from the Midi Studio:

1/ Disconnect the device

2/ First go to: Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI setup

- Then Click: View > Midi Studio

3/ Then select the device and delete it.

Once deleted, reconnect your device and try again.
