Should be. USB 2.0 is a standard with specification.

I've seen a macbook pro power a keylab 88 so yeah.

is that without the laptop plugged in? I looking to create a portable kit.

USB should output the same amount of power regardless of if the laptop is plugged in or not. It will make your battery not last as long because it is using more energy.
