Oberheim Sem V crashing Digital Performer 7.24
« on: July 12, 2012, 08:15:26 pm »
Hi there, I just bought  Arturia's Oberheim Sem V classic synth and every time I use the AU version in Digital Performer... upon closing the instrument it will crash Digital Performer.
It will not allow me to close the instrument or choose another plugin.
I'm using the latest version Of the Oberheim program V1.1.2.
In Stand alone mode it works pretty well. The only problem I have is when I first open the instrument the preset arrows don't work for changing a patch until I've changed a patch first from the patch drop down window. Then it works and sound just like my old 8 voice OB8. Just must easier to carry around:-)

I've noticed in the AU component if I go to "show package contents" and open the resources folder there is a "plugin.vst 3" file as well as an Oberheim SEM V.rsrc file.
All of my other Arturia Synth programs only contain the rsrc file.
If I remove the vst file then open DP, the Oberheim will not open at all and I get an error message. Maybe the vst file is for the graphics.

I'm on a MacPro 8-core with 8 gigs of Rom. I'm using Snow Leopard 10.6.8
Has anyone using the Oberheim SEM V had this experience??
PS...It is also crashing Native Instrument "Maschine"

Thanks for any information,
Robert

Hi,

Thanks for this very clear report.
I'm happy to tell you that the arrow down/up problem is fixed.
And the crash is fixed too.
This will be fixed in the next release. I don't now when, but soon. It will probably be available only on the web.
In the mean time if you want to, you can send me contact me using PM, so you will be in the mailing list for the Beta test of the next version.

By the way, the VST3 in the AU is because the AU is based on it. So do not throw it away, and to be clear you should never modify the content of a bundle, the idea was to bundle it so it is clear that it is a part of the AU.

Best

Talking about an upcoming release, seven days after the last release makes me laugh!  :D Beta test should be done before a release not after!

And btw., I was asking for a beta test months ago, but did never get any reaction from Thomas!

I too have a Oberheim issue with DP... I'm using DP 5 and none of the synths allow me to control ANYTHING with the mouse. It doesn't freeze up DP in fact I can play notes using my midi controller, and I can still exit out the synth plugin but it won't let me press buttons, move sliders, play keys, anything... with the mouse. I've uninstalled DP and reinstalled... I've sent a request to your tech support, but they've been pretty slow. Probably a strange problem that has them scratching their heads. Anyone have this same issue though with any of the other versions of DP?

Hi

FYI, this bug does not exist with the 1.1.5, on my mac. I hope this is fixed for you too.
I tested with DP8 on my 10.7.

If you want to test it, see here :
==> http://www.arturia.com/downloads/obsemv/beta/Oberheim%20SEM%20V_115_rc5.dmg

Also, this version seems to work fine on DP8 too.

Sorry to tell you but this version crashed on my computer when using DP 7.24 just like ver.1.1.3
(See my post above for full details. Nothing has seemed to changed with this new beta ver.)

Hi

I'm really sorry I don' understand what happens with your DP.
Do you have DP8 ?
If you can try It is much more stable on DP8, seems to be related to MOTU finally moving to more recent libraries of Apple.

All of your synths have been working in DP8 quite well indeed.

Hi

yes without being too technical we can say that we have some difficulties with DP7 and maschine on mac in 32bit.
The best advice too users I can give is to get the rid of old applications in 32bit on mac.
We will probably also have to move on as we can t support it well anymore.
Live 8 on another hand is working right for the gui (with some tricks).

SEM 64-bit works better in DP8 than 32-bit did in DP7, so it's all moving in a good direction. I had some weirdness in 32-bit mode today that went away when I switched to 64-bit mode; but DP7 users don't have that option...
As a long-time DP user (since version 1  :o ) I can honestly say that DP8 has not made me regret upgrading from 7.24, not one bit. But I do have some plug-ins and instruments that need 64-bit updates; some, like the NI Prophet-53, never will get them. :(
If I really need to use the 32-bit only plug-ins or instruments, I can go to Get Info in the Finder, and check the box that says "Open In 32-bit Mode"...but then stability issues creep in, and sometimes I run out of headroom. (in 32-bit mode.)
