USB breakdown ?
« on: June 26, 2012, 07:32:16 pm »
I just downloaded the latest firmware and wanted to update the Origin. I'm currently using version 1.2.5 and would like to try the 1.4.
After installation, the Origin Connection proposes to test the communication with the Origin (from a Windows XP sp 3). When I start it, the Origin shows a white screen informing that it is now controlled by an external application. But then the Origin Connection progression bar keeps its 0% value and after some time, aborts with an error message.
I tried from a laptop on which an older version of the Origin Connection was installed. No success here neither with the sync process. I changed the USB cable. Still nothing.
I had no problem with the previous firmware updates.
I don't understand. Could it be a defective USB connector ?

Hmmm. This was a feature of Origin Connection I wasn't aware of until today  :-\

This was done on Windows XP because the generic MIDI driver had a bug. Right now I'm afraid that the only solution is to find a Mac or a PC with a more recent OS (Vista or Windows 7).

Alas, I get the exact same problem using a laptop with Windows 7.

Do you mean that OC starts a test of the connection even when running on Windows 7 ?

No. There is no test.
On Windows 7, when I plug the USB chord in, Origin Connection tries to sync immediately with the Origin.
The Origin switches to a black on white display:
"Origin is currently controlled by an external application. Please wait..."
while the OC shows a round bouncing scroll bar (the title of the dialog window at this moment is "Syncing with Origin").
The percentage remains 0% all the time.
After a while, an "Error" dialog box appears that displays "Origin has been disconnected".
Clicking OK, I get the message "Can't load Origin preset infos".
And the display on the Origin remains unchanged: I have to switch it off and on to quit the black on white display.

OK.

If you have the time, I'd suggest the following:

- get a newer version of OC here:

http://www.arturia.net/filesharing/www/?action=d&id=01440138390748021617651390809

It won't probably change nothing to your problem but this version adds a lot of traces to the log file so I have more information for the debug.

- don't launch OC now, but restart your Origin and wait for it to boot completely.
- launch OC
- wait until the end of the sync or the failure
- goto the OC menu item "File" and choose "Open the Logs Folder"
- there you select everything including the log which appears alone at the root of the folder
- compress and send the archive to me using this forum

Thank you

The attached zip only holds a MAC version of the Origin Connection.

Ooops, yes you're right. I'll compile a Windows version tomorrow morning and will send it to you asap.

This is just a reminder for the Windows' debug version of the Origin Connection.
Thanks.

Is there any chance to have the Windows' debug version of the Origin Connection ?

I just tried the latest 1.4.1 update. The result is still the same for me : Origin Connection cannot establish the connection with the Origin. (Exact same issue as described above)
Could you please send me the Windows debug version in order to get more information ?

The "debug" version was there to catch a bug which has been fixed with the 1.4.1 update, so it won't be of any help in your case.

Are you using a windows version greater or equal than XP SP3 when you tried these updates to 1.4.1?
Could you check if your Origin is recognized by the computer OS as a MIDI device?

If it is recognized as a MIDI device then the logs generated by OC1.4.1 would be needed.

To get these logs when using Origin Connection 1.4:
- open Origin Connection
- open the menu File
- select the entry "Open The Logs folder"
- this open a finder window which shows the content of a folder named "Origin Connection". You should find there 2 files and a folder named "log_archives".
- select everything that is  the sub folder *and* the 2 files
- compress them and attach the archive to your mail

To get these logs when using an older version of Origin Connection:
- manually open the folder which contains these logs.

The log files are available here:

   PC XP:
        C:\Documents and Settings\"user_name"\Application Data\Origin Connection

     PC Vista:
        C:\Users\"user_name"\AppData\Roaming\Origin Connection

     Mac:
        /Users/"user_name"/Library/Origin Connection

On a Mac running Mac OS 10.8 the folder is hidden in a Finder window. Then the simplest way to find the Logs folder is to install Origin Connection 1.4.

Thx

I am using Windows XP SP3.
The Origin appears in the USB list as "Péripherique USB composite".
In the folder "C:\Documents and Settings\"user_name"\Application Data\Origin Connection" I can find only one file, not two.
In the "log_archives" there is also a previous log.

I also tried on a Laptop running Windows 7, and there too, only one file is to be found.

I attached a zip with the three files generated by the Origin Connection that comes with the 1.4.1 update.

Hmmm, you may have a problem with the USB link. Could you tell me the serial number of your Origin?
Also do you feel comfortable with computers (asking that because one of the action could be to reprogram the USB firmware which requires to open the Origin - easy on a desktop unit - and to execute a procedure which is not simple for non-technical people)?

My unit has serial number 08242000014.
There should be no problem with the technical operations.
