Ableton, Reason, Mainstage and Arturia 49 keys controller
« on: May 16, 2011, 10:21:25 pm »
I recently purchased the 49 key midi controller from arturia, I want to use it with other softwares I own like ableton, reason, mainstage, etc. Each of the programs are allowing me to use my controller as a plug and play keyboard, however I have no control over the effects onboard.  Do I have to manually map the my controller on each of these programs? Is there a setting that will automatically detect it, like my M Audio controller would do? This has been frustrating. I do not see anything in the manual on this. Someone please help?

thanks
justin

In case of Reason/Record, you'll either have to make your own Codec for a generic use of the keyboard with all the rack devices and transport controls (what I would do.... and eventually will do, if I end up buying it)

OR

You can always use the more limited way of assigning each of the controller controls to the parameters you want to control, on a per-song basis.

Easier but less flexible than the 1st option I mentioned.

I still haven't decided if I'll buy that controller, just because I currently own 5 keyboards already... but, I'm tempted because it looks like a nice controller and to be honest, I'm tempted with the challenge of doing a Codec for it.

But... buying it just to be able to make a Remote Codec (nothing new to me, I do it a lot) for it that I would make available for free still doesn't compute as a good financial decision ;) ...so, I'm still not sure what I'll end up doing.

I'm also interested in doing a Remote Codec for the Spark Controller, also if I ever get one to keep, so... unless Arturia itself decides to do it for their users, I can't see another solution but doing it yourself.

You're a brave person! Haha.

So far, I am pleased with arturia's sounds, however I am surprised and disheartened how finicky the whole process is with setting it up, tech support is hit and miss, and manually mapping out everything for each program I run: ableton, reason, mainstage, is a pain. Not sure at this point what I want to do, take it back, or keep it?

If I could...in my ideal world, I'd take the sounds in arturia that I love and run them through mainstage or reason or ableton, since I've yet to be able to use it as a plug in I dont know if that will ever be accomplished. So for now I am using it as a stand alone, with my nord. It's okay...but many of the sounds I run from stage crackle and pop, and when switching patches I get crazy noises....

done complaining. If you have any insight I'd love to hear.
