about Modulation from external signal
« on: March 09, 2009, 06:24:36 pm »
Hello! I have a problem with external modulation:  :-\
from oscillator module: after setting the external signal (plus keyboard-follow), origin doesn't emit any sound. Even if i exit from edit page and change program, origin doesn't emit any sound, but midi is received!!
I must turn off and turn on in order to restore it.
Why?... ???
Thanks

Looks like a bug   :-[
Could you describe more precisely what you're trying to do? Tell me what connections you were attempting? Which output? Which input? Were you playing notes while doing the connection? What do you mean by "external signal"? Well, all that kind of things....

Thanx

Well, during editing I don't send any midi message to origin.
I have tried the following steps:
1) into module oscillators (I have proved all: generic, miniMg, arp, cs80 and jupiter) I have added, as source of FM-modulation, one input (left as well as right)
2) I have pressed a key on master keyboard and than origin hasn't played
3) This happen with or without a fisical audio connections to audio inputs (I have tried with a roland juno, a microphone and finally with...nothing)
4) I have changed program, but no sounds.
5) Furthermore, when I'm palying some key on master keyboard, origin shows the virtual led on display (left lower part), like when it's receive a note-on/off
6) I have selected preset n°396 (morse seq) to verify if the sequencer start: it doesn't start
7) I have try to start demo: it seems operate correctly, but no sounds
8 ) All controls on the front panel seem work correctly, but no sounds
Obviously, before setting audio input as FM-modulation source, origin palyed. I must reboot.
 :(

OK, I can reproduce the crash here. It will be fixed for the next release. For now, you can work around this problem by doing the following:
- before adding the connection from the AudioIN save your work
- reload your preset (eg press + then - on the keypad)
- add the connection,
Should work now.

There's an even simpler workaround.
Before doing the connection to the AudioIN press the PANIC switch.

The reason for this is that the crash occurs when you play notes and then add a connection. Origin keeps played Voices "ready to be used" even if they have vanished. So if you add a connection, or do any modification to the preset, some update has to be applied to these "sleeping" voices so that they reflect the modification you've done, and it doesn't work when the AudioIN module is involved in the "add connection". Should be OK for other modules though.

Good Morning Arturia,
I proved it and really Origin play when I play some keys, but it doesn't show any external modulation.

Using OriginConnection on your computer could you get the preset and send it to me so that I can have a look at it?

Thx

Well. Connecting audio wire to "left" input but setting on display "audio-in right", Origin works exactly: it seems that labels are inverted !? However, in this way it plays right.  :)
Thanks for support
