Ideal Configuration of UC-33e with CS-80V
« on: August 21, 2007, 01:44:09 pm »
Apologies for the cross-posting on the Arturiacs board.  But I wanted to get folks' take on this.

I have a CS-80V, a UC-33e and a monophonic aftertouch keyboard
controller. I recognize the limitations of not having a polyphonic
aftertouch, though have found it's not TOO bad if you're holding a
pedal chord in your left hand and use a majority of the aftertouch to
express what I'm playing with the right, a la "Blade Runner Blues" or
something.

What I'm trying to decide is how to configure the UC-33e to optimize
control of the CS-80V. I know folks here have worked with UC-33e's in
the past, and was wondering if anyone had any ideas.

At present, I have the knobs largely configured to control a majority
of the performance controls and the sliders set to control both
oscillators' VCF and VCA envelopes.

Any suggestions? I'm looking to make this thing as performance
oriented as possible. Thanks...

I would say it depends on the patches you use on stage....

The UC-33e is a MIDI controller with knobs, faders and buttons.  I'm trying to configure it for editing of CS-80V sounds.

Actually, I don't use it on stage.

The problem, as I learned, is that the CS-80V just has way too many parameters to put on one preset.  So what I decided, if anyone cares to know (I can post the .xml files somewhere if they do), is to create three different presets -- one for each oscillator and another for "performance controls."

Basically, it's 1) Oscillator 1 (VCF Env, VCA Env, Init. Brill/Level, LFO, Oscillator Waveforms, also the Sub Osc. and Mix/Brill/Reso and buttons for the Oscillators themselves), 2) Oscillator 2 (same), 3) "Performance Controls" -- which basically, is everything right above the keyboard (Ring Mod, Touch Response, Keyb. Control, Arpeggiator).  All 3 presets have the Mix/Brill/Reso, which allows for global control at any time.

Thus far, I like it and am getting the hang of it.  I'd like it even more if I had an overlay that said where everything was.  :D

thanx ; and i'm afraid you will have to design your own overlay..
