Keith Emerson presets/sounds/patches
« on: December 07, 2006, 08:16:55 pm »
Anyone know where/what the sounds keith emerson used on the GX 1 with ELP and also I think he used it on the nighthawks soundtrack?

Are there any CS 80 pathces/presets available that are Keith's sounds?

Great forum....New owner of prophet V and CS80 V.....  both great

Thanks

Not trying to argue in any way but..... synthesizers are made to let you go further with your own creativity so , to me , there's not much pleasure trying to emulate a known sound....then at the times even Emerson himself made his sound for "Fanfare" through the messing around of the panel and myself , even if I'm an old Vangelisian, didn't ever thought to buy a CS80V to get those sounds....those were perfectly obtainable with every synthesizer....

Can you post a link to an example - I'd be willing to have a go at recreating the sound you want on the CS-80V.

I too would like to know more about this. The solo for Fanfare For The Common Man is one. And the other is the solo for 'Pirates'.

Both have the signature LFO speed increase.

Both sound like square waves with a pitch envelope on one oscillator at the beginning to give an out of tune 'whistler' kind of attack.

The other I'd like to know about is the trumpet sound used for Fanfare.

Any other thoughts would be MOST welcome.

THANKS!

If you're referring to the intro, those are real trumpets.

There's a patch in the preset banks (that comes with 1.5 at least) called, I think, "FunFare" that is very close. Look under "horns". I did a bit of tweaking to it to get the VCF/VCA "growl" to come in on heavy aftertouch (for some reason, I could not get it to respond to the wheel, but I'm a noob). It was pretty straightforward.

I begin to get an appreciation for why the patch sounded subtly different between albums <grin>.
