Can someone please explain how layers work
« on: November 28, 2013, 03:09:51 am »
Hello

I am using a number of Ueberschall samples to create my own kits. The problem is that these samples may contain several different bass drum sounds and the total number of samples may exceed 16. Rather than have seperate instruments for each bass drum sound i wanted to stack them in the sample layers. I know they can be stacked in a variety of ways  (I presume for triggering) such as velocity, random, stack or circular. The question really relates to how i get whichever layer to play at a particular point in a song.

Is their a way to use one of the six for a particular part and then use one of the orher samples in the stack at another point.

Is it simply a matter of using the velocity setting for each sample and then applying a velocity trigger in the midi note?

Can a pattern be set to play a different layer without any other signal than the one which selects which pattern to play.

As an example to make it clearer.

On the bass drum instrument I have six different bass drum sounds. That bass drum is used in a number of patterns.
Is their a way in a pattern to select which of the bass drum samples is to play.

Thanks

you could simply play the single layers with different velocity. when you open the sequenzer you can adjust the velocity to make sure there's allways the sound you want to hear.

Thanks Jay Bits

However that doesn't work as the velocity also affects the volume.

I thought it might be the stacked mode but that doesn't seem to work either.

Nor does stacked mode play all layers at once which is what I assumed stacked mode was.

Threshold also affects volume.

While circular and random triggering are definitely not what i want.

I really wish someone from arturia would speak up about this as the documentation is not clear either.

You can use the threshold mode for that.

Threshold also affects volume.

really? i use the 6 layers with threshold and didn't notice any volume-changes... maybe you have to adjust the gain of each layer?

Threshold should not affect volume. It plays the sample without applying any velocity.
