Title: Comfortably Numb Pink Floyd
Post by: tikimark on October 05, 2016, 03:48:27 pm
Wondering if anyone out there (no pun intended) has ever done a cover of Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb and if you had any guidance on getting the background synth/orchestra sounds.  I've read the Wright Gear document and I guess he used the Prophet V on The Wall album, but I haven't been able to find out much else.  I know Wright also was kind of in and out on that album and Bob Ezrin might have played some of the synth parts.  Looking around YouTube I've heard a few decent versions, but I'm looking more for the background soundscape rather than a keyboard version of the song.  I've played around with some of the presets in the Prophet V3 but I'm not sure I'm really nailing it.  This is for a live performance so I'm trying to get as close as possible.  Thanks in advance for any advise.

I believe Pink Floyd did use real orhestra musicians and sounds on Comfortably Numb.
Try and read this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comfortably_Numb

But Pink Floyd also used a Prophet-5 on The Wall album.

This is my patch for Comfortably Numb. It's the "Milkyway Queen" patch tweaked a bit. I don't play the orchestra parts because just like LBH said, they used a real orchestra on the album. It's not a prophet V, it's a synclavier though. I also use (and recommend) a tweaked Milkyway Queen to play On The Turning Away.
I'm starting a Pink Floyd cover band and I have several good patches that I'm willing to share.

I just saw your post. I don't see your preset. But i believe some people will be interested in your presets if you post them. I'm curious my self.

Happy New Year.

Did you mean to attach the modified preset, or just simply reference it?
I'm curious just how you tweaked it to taste.
