Title: MiniLab Analog Lab software blows Logic CPU when plug-in open
Post by: scab righteous on November 03, 2014, 05:28:00 am
I have a mac with an 8 core i7 processor, totally fast for most uses.
I still use OS 10.6.8 because it has proven to be the most stable with Logic 9.1.8
The MiniLab box states that the Analog Lab software will work with 10.6 or higher - although I had to download an older version of Analog Lab for this system, then newer updates do not work with 10.6. So my version of Analog Lab is 1.0.5

If I have the plug in playing a track, the CPU usage is very small. But if I have the plug-in open, so I can audition sounds, the plug-in blows the lid off a core on my CPU. In the Analog Lab software it will say 12% CPU, but nope it's maxing out a core and causing clicks, noise and other problems. Totally unusable.

Sure it works fine when the plug-in interface is not open, but you need to open it to go through sounds. How do other users get around this bug?

Logic 9.1.8/10.6.8 & 10.9.4 Mac Pro 3.1
Logic 9.1.8/10.6.8 & 10.9.4 Mac Book Pro 2009
V-Collection 3/Analog Factory/Lab

I have the same in 10.6.8 (32 bit), not on every sound but for a lot of them core 8 goes into red! does not inspire one to edit freely  have you tried a higher buffer rate in audio preferences? not that is really a"fix"
Currently ( reluctantly) I'm running Mavericks on a partition trying to get all my plugs to run on both platforms(32/64 bit)finding the optimum version on things like
this is pretty tedious- I liked Analog factory but it wasn't really stable and no more updates;( will try lab in mavericks but like you I prefer SL

EDIT!!installed V1.1 of Analog Lab and so far works better less cpu spikes-but crashed while dragging sounds in multi part, maybe i was going to quickly!
more experimentation

So, I backed up my Snow Leopard system and updated to Mavericks. I lost a few plug-ins, but overall, Logic 9.1.8 works fine and it has been months with no problems, so I would say 9.1.8 on Mavericks is totally usable. I didn't have that luck when I attempted to move to Mountain Lion.

The updated Analog Lab software for Mavericks is far less CPU intense. However editing patches can still be a problem, so this is not software you could ever use in a live rig. Still though, sometimes randomly the GUI seems to trigger a CPU spike.
