Title: Virtual vs Hardware Dongle
Post by: CarvinAbuser on May 23, 2012, 01:06:32 am
I'd prefer not to use the hardware dongle, is there any advantage in using it instead of the virtual dongle?  Thanks

Mobility of the licenses.

Any license you transfer/put on the USB key allows you to use the Arturia Synths on any computer where you plug the key in (and install the software, of course).

That's really the only reason why I keep my unique licenses on the key.

I have some duplicate licenses too, and those I put 1 set on the disk of the laptop I use the most (avoiding having to connect the USB key) and keep the other set in the key, so I can still use the synths when on the go with my other laptop (or any other computer).

Makes sense, thanks for the response.  How do you go about putting the same license on the disk and the USB key?

This is only possible if you own more than one eLicense for a product.  ;)

You can't, like Manuel already said.

Note that I said this:
I have some duplicate licenses too
That's why I put a set on the key and the other on my home laptop used on my usual setup.

Aside mobility of the licensees, has anyone seen better reliability with one over the other?

I have two sets of licenses, V Collection 3 and 10 year suite. I was going to transfer the V collection to the soft elicenser as the USB dongle seems a bit unreliable, then have my 10 year suite for my Mac laptop for when i do mobile stuff (Dongle)

I get pro tools sessions crash as it think synths are not licensed. Once i remove the key and out it back again it seems to be fine. I have it on a hub but I also have reason dongles and an ilok which are fine so hub is not the issue (ie, Pro Tools would not boot which it does fine.)

Cheers
