Title: Old Bionic Sound FX?
Post by: UniQue Werkx on November 07, 2010, 04:12:30 pm
Has anyone made a sound similar to the old Six Million Dollar Man bionic sound fx?

I found a site with the sound sample...

this sound appears to be a real world sound sample. Can be synthesized, but that's not so easy.

What do you want to do with this sound? What's Bionic Sound FX anyway?

I'd just like to recreate it for sentimental reasons... and then tweak it for a slightly different version. It's a synth sound to begin with... this is the sound FX from the old show Six Million Dollar Man from the 1970's. He was rebuilt with a "bionic" arm, legs & eyes. The sound FX you heard is when he used his bionic arm or legs. There was another sound they used for his bionic eye. LOL It was a cheesy show but when you're a kid, it was awesome! LOL

alright, I would start with patching VCO's to the frequency shifter and/or ring modulator to get a metallic sound. VCO cross modulation may help, too. Then route the signal to different filters until it gets similar to the desired sound. Then use the sequencer or an LFO to repeatedly trigger the envelopes. I would try to use as few VCO's and other modules as possible, and only increase the number and complexity of the patch if there is no other way.

Thanks Phil999.  I'll give it a try this weekend. I just thought for sure that someone had attempted this..... obviously not. At least here.
