Title: Anyone using Spark with other drum software?
Post by: kcearl on May 03, 2013, 03:08:51 pm
I have maschine as well as spark and have started to make a template for it so i can use just the one controller on the road

Im stumped at getting 16 pads to work instead of 8 and using the xoxox sequencer to map...anyone any ideas?

Hi i use spark  to trigger other drum machine like cubase ga1 and geist .i did make a template for geist but you can only use  the first 8 pads ,but the way i get around this is load spark in cubase and then load geist assign spark midi in to geist then i can use all 16 pads in geist or ga1 .
give it a try .but this is only for the pads.

OK, thanks Terry..Ill give it a shot

be great if this shipped with a library of templates...maschines controller's great for this, but with extra buttons and the step sequencer buttons Spark would kill it

Would you mind sharing the template for Geist? As it stands with the current versions, Geist is more powerful than Spark, but I enjoy using Spark Le much more with the controller.

I am using it to control 8 pads in drum racks only live 9. Is there a template where I have access for the 2nd bank 9-16?

Sorry for the late reply... Yes I can successfully control MOTU BPM all of the 16 pads and rest of the features using the SPARK ... I will create a Video and post it on Youtube for others..

I've spent a fair amount of time with Spark triggering BFD inside of Ableton on OSX, but it's not 'great'.

Within Live9, I'm mixing BFD and Spark as A/B with the X-fader, with BFD receiving Spark's MIDI for Seq and Pad output via the IAC bus.

Because BFD has so many possible articulations (pads) for snare (~5) and cymbals (as many as 8 for HH alone) I find myself running out of pads.

There are some issues with Monitoring and Recording that I won't get into, but so far, its been a bit of a pain to easily build Live clips in BFD's channel via Sparks MIDI Output without a 2nd controller of some sort.

Most of the 'realtime' problems stem from the fact that spark will not reconnect HW/SW should it become disconnected, so it's impossible to use Spark and Spark Midi Control together without resorting to the mouse to reconnect.

It works pretty well, but isn't 'great'. Its still too cumbersome for me to use for real time construction, but I'm still setting up a 2nd controller optimally.

have fun!

i use it to trigger and write patterns in logic for either exs drums or ultrabeat - works 100% - just set the midi notes on the pads and off you go; then it simply works as a 'master keyboard' but with 16 pads instead of keys.

i does the same when triggering external midi drum modules also.

mate it works fine to control other 3rd party drums in terms of triggering them running in your host sequencer (battery, exs, ultrabeat etc), but there's a pattern export bug to be fixed IF you decide to create internal spark patterns while triggering 3rd party s/w drums & want to then export the patterns to your host sequencer. i'm posting videos soon showing how to do it all, so dont worry.

Does anyone know what the CC#s for Geist's pads and the Start and Stop commands are? I'm trying to set them up, but am having no luck right now. I don't see the option in Geist to select a Midi In port (and set it as Spark Public In). There must be something I'm missing, because I know Geist can be controlled by Maschine's hardware.
