Title: Using the Minibrute as a simple midi keyboard?
Post by: coldwar1977 on April 18, 2013, 12:29:58 am
Question:

Let's suppose I want to use the MB as a simple midi keyboard to play with a desktop synth like the Mg Minitaur or Vermona Mono Lancet.
Will the mod/pitch wheels and (more importantly) the octave switches sent signals to the desktop synth???  ???
I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm kinda new to this (I've never connected other synthgear before) so I need to know for sure.

Thanx in advance & cheers from Belgium!

yes it's great.

i don't think the "bend range" will change though, that's on the synth you send to i believe

i use it with my DAW sometimes when i'm working on ideas.  kind of small for good control though

Alright, thanx mate!

I agree it could have used a half octave extra for better control, but I really like the Minibrute's key action. Feels great.

I received this answer from the Arturia helpdesk today:

Hi Danny,

MiniBrute provides MIDI via USB only for these parameters:
==> Velocity
==> Mod Weel
==> After touch
==> The keys

So that means the octave switches won't have any effect...  :(

Well they change what octave the keys send...

So you have tried it out?
That means it's possible nonetheless to play the whole noterange of the desktop synth using the octave switches of the MB?

you're good man, there is no midi octave switch.  that button is physically changing the note played by the key on the keybed.  as far as your daw or any other midi devices are concerned, they just "see" a different note.
