Title: UI update
Post by: lilo on February 27, 2013, 08:08:07 pm
This has probably been asked before, but since I am not seeing anything coming, let me bring the topic again. The plugins are great, but their UIs are dated, back from the time people had 4:3 17" monitors. Most people now have 24" wide screens and we almost can't read texts or hardly manipulate controls with the current UIs. Please update the UI of all your soft synths and provide multiple resolutions as several vendors are doing today, this can give a new fresh breath to your plugin offering.

This may be on the way already. If you look at the iPad version of the MiniMg you'll see a HUGE improvement.

Almost everyone I talk to, that uses Arturia synths for production, end up using one of the factory presets and tweaking a few knobs. I guess that's why there's a market for the Analogue Player series. The user interface design of their synths is not very practical for mouse usage and serious sound creation. Do you know why? The original classic synths were designed to be used with human hands, not a mouse! ;)

That's a pity because Arturia makes good sounding synths but they get stuck on trying to recreate the visual of the original interface. Arturia should look at the UI of the old Creamware emulations as inspiration or what Korg did with their own MS20 soft synth; practical but still retaining the original visual style.

I am fine with recreating the original hardware UI as long as it is updated along with today display needs. The fact the new iPad app is showing up-to-date graphics doesn't mean the existing soft synths will get a UI update, even though I would also like to think so. I do use the synths for sound design myself and not only playing the presets, so I am interested in having UIs comfortable enough to do so.
